Right now (the sunniest early may bank holiday since the Mayans started scratching calendars into stone), I'm sat indoors and Hesketh is still up on axel stands.... :(

But despite this disappointment I have so many other amazing top down driving days I look back on, I cannot help but smile... And this has had me thinking: which was my most perfect top down day?

There have been so many, it's so hard to choose. There have been trips to new places, group days, days out with family and friends, sunny days, days with biting cold and snow, even rainy days that are amazing. (I've pretty much forgotten what the inside of my softtop looks like, because it's never up!)

So, I invite you all to share what was your best top down day, or to suggest what would be your perfect one as a "bucket list' drive.

Across the N Yorks moors from Whitby to Pickering on a sunny but not over-hot day. Fish and chips fried in dripping in Pickering, followed by a ride on the N Yorks steam railway. Stayed over, got blootered on Old Peculier. Bliss.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

I think it was the day we drove into Monti Carlo 2 weeks after the Grand Prix and realised we had come across the start line - and most of the track fixtures were still in evidence, after the third lap Mrs TC commented that she thought we had already been this way - LOL

A couple of laps of Reims and Naples GP tracks were almost as impressive.

A good case could be made for today, apart for the last miles home when we got caught up in a buttock clenching 5mph crawl for an hour. The hottest day of the year saw the temperature gauge resolutely where it should be & the fans switching in sympathy whilst more prestigious cars expired on the hard shoulder. Bonnets up chaps.

This reminds me of my worst day. We drove down from where we were staying on the north of Naples down to Sorrento, got stuck in a jam in a tunnel, didn't enjoy Sorrento as it was too touristy, then got lost on the way to Amalfi to spend 5 hours doing 20 miles. Worst jam I have ever seen. The car hated it. Boiled over twice on the way back to Blighty. I ended up doing a full rebuild of the cooling system.

TC. The Amalfi coast road is where myself and Wifey-poo would like to take our classic Mini . We've spent some great holidays in that part of Italy . Got on the wrong bus in Manori, got off when we found we were going nowhere of interest , walked back into Manori and there at the side of the road a small back street garage was a guy working on a classic Mini in Limeflower . We chatted about the car for a while and he ended up offering me some of his freshly grilled sardines. Great holiday.

I'm with John and Sue 100%!! Over the tops from Pickering to Whitby, past Fylingdales. Fish and Chips in the Quayside chippy, perfect! This is the route that made me want a 2 seater roadster back when I was a kid and has been a bit of a bucket list item ever since.

Yep , that road from Pickering to Whitby takes some beating . Wouldn't like to be stranded up there in the depths of winter though .

Just have to love the A5 running up through Snowdonia.
From Llangollen up to Anglesey. Lots of Scenic views, good driving roads and the two classic bridges over to Anglesey itself.

And not forgetting the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct itself at Llnogollen....
