yeah I did it.

Very easy to do, fitting the dials from the F requires the bracket from the TF dials and obviously he will need the relevant switches to fit his car. I think the window ones are the same though.
From memory theres a small bit of foam/plastic that needs to be cut away near the heating controls.

Surely the difficulty is with the gear lever gaiter....

The Mk1 console has a rectangular hole and the Mk2 and TF round. A bit of work with a stanley knife may sort that out.

( Other makes of knives are available !)

If I can remember from when I did mine you'll need a tf centre console, a new fog light switch and blanks etc, the gear gaitor, mk2 / tf heater knobs, and the white spacer behind the heater dials from a Mk2 F. it's basically plug and play from then on. a nice little swap that totally updates the interior.

Its easy enough to do if you have all the bits. Meg was black interior with Mk1 cream seats when I got her. Now shes:

You need the console, switches, gear surround and rubber mat(like old dust they are!).

You KEEP the window switches (as TF ones have a different plug) and the guages (same reason), plus the gaiter itself if it is a coloured one (you CAN make it fit the round ring with a bit of fiddling!).

Everything is pretty much push fit.

I added a walnut heater panel from a Rover 416GSi (wedge) which needs some extra work but looks great with the MY05 heater knobs if you sink them in with some enginuity with a craft knife and the innards of the R416 control box!

The Mk2 console is just more modern looking although you do lose the 'coin shelf' which is the most amazing piece of overengineered plastic rubbish I ever did see! LOL
