Does anyone have any idea why I can't get my broadband to work at home? It either doesn't connect at all or it connects for a few minutes then drops out again. It's driving me mad at the mo! The only way to get uninterupted broadband is to plug the yellow cable (LAN?) from the back of my laptop into my router.

Any ideas???

Does your laptop connect automatically when using wireless Kara? or do you use a network card and have to input the settings.

If network card - I had bother on my old pc and it would solve it by un-installing then re-installing the card.

What router have you got?

As you can connect fine via a cable we know you broadband itself is fine. And the router is probably ok.

So its either an incorrect wirless key in your network settings or the channel your wireless is on is crowded

To start of with double check your wireless key. let me know if you need to know how.

from the screen shot you sent me the other day, it looks like your running windows vista, is that right?

Hi hun! Yes it has always connected automatically. And it's always worked perfectly until I moved to our new place - ever since then it's been playing up.

Yes I'm running Vista. My router is just the normal one sky sent me... it worked fine in Brighton but since moving here it's been so unreliable so maybe my wireless channel is crowded. How would I change channel & also how would I find out if the wireless key is wrong?

Thank you! :)

To change the wirless channel.

I'm assumming everything is on its defaults

Plug in your network lead first and then in your web browser go to http://192.168.0.1/. You'll get a window asking you to enter a username and a password. For those you should enter username admin and password sky
You'll then see the router's status page.
Click on the Wireless Settings link on the left.
In there you'll see a wireless channel box which you can change between 1 to 11 , its probably on 6 at the mo. i would try 4 or 5 first

Should look a little like this

You chould also change the SSID to a more nicer name instead of the default SKY12345.

Whilst your'e in there make a note of the wiress key aswell

i'll tag the checking the wirless key later on

Well I just arrived in Malaysia so only just saw this... well done Psymon for pointing out the broadcast channel... would have been my first thought too.

There are so many homes with routers now that it almost always is the reason for slow or bad connections nowadays....
