So what do we think is the best people? I've been having a debate with some friends (one owns a mazda, & one owns a Z4!) about what the best "affordable" convertible is, and it would be great to hear your thoughts. And don't go for the obvious choice!

The TF is my second convertible, the first was a SLK 230. Nice car went like stink however there was no driver involvement the car could drive itself. Where as i find the TF more a drivers car.

I have owned a (Mk1) MX5, but have found my MGF to be much more fun to drive..

Having said that... would LOVE a Z4!

I know where you're coming from with the Z4's sporty and chiselled looks but a make of mine bought a top of the range and YES it is a good car - but oh so boring and sterile! Plus the body shut lines were almost as bad as the MG at twice the price!

For the price little comes close.. yeah people will shout "MR2 Turbo" all day long but the older MR2s are not that good and the MK3 which I rate better than the TF is twice the price so its all relative. I too would like a Z4 on looks and engine... but its far more expensive.

MGTF trumps the Z3 even with the big 2.8 and the Mazda MX-5 S2
I feel that an early F would be on par with an early MX-5

in the front drivers we have the italians (?!?!) Fiat Barchetta and the GTV Spyder. Gorgeous cars.. but FWD and thats the killer for me and drop tops

MG TF 135 135 Bhp

Well thanks for the honest opinions guys :yesnod:

I must admit I'm REALLY starting to miss top down driving now after all this chat about convertibles! It's tricky though because whilst I really really like the Zed I just don't LOVE it like I loved SLave :frown: so I'm torn between getting a TF, getting an entirely different convertible or getting on my hands and knees & begging Steve to swap back!

I know, I know typical woman doesn't know what she wants! :shake:

Lol yes please! It's just that I've seen this pretty flip paint tf on eBay that's perfect and whilst I know I could sell the zs and afford to buy it knowing my luck I'll sell the zs for it & in the mean time the tf will sell leaving me without a car & i can't risk that... It's a bit of a catch 22 :frown:

For value for money it has to be an F/TF as if they are better than the rest who cares.

I take it that the good new. Is your bro has found some wheels then if not a rover 200 cab ain't a bad car n cheap. Failing that if 4 seats are needed a Volvo C 70 is the car for you.
