The July issue of Classics Monthly just droped through my door, and the MGF is included in their Soft-Top Shootout, Other cars in the list where the MGB Roadster, Triumph Spitfire, Lotus Elan, Toyota MR2 and Mazda MX5.

Shame it got rated joint last with the elan. The MX5 won, The MGF lost out on Build Quality and DIY Maintenance.

I have two sisters, one has a 97 MX5 that she had from new (23k on the clock now), the other has a 52 plate MR2 (44k on the clock now) that she had from 12months old (the car not my sister before you lot start!)
The MR2 does have great build quality outside but inside I think the MR2 & MX5 are tacky compared with my F & outside, the body on my F (46k on the clock) is as good as the MR2 & better than the MX5. The only thing that is streets ahead of the F, IMO on the other two is the gearchange, despite the MS Bell crank mod being fitted.

would agree on the gear change but lowering the stick drastically (with a rather drastic hack saw) and either the MS slick shift kit or tightening up the mechs and putting on nyloc nuts makes a big difference

Teesside meet, open to all MG/Rs. 3rd Sunday of the month, ask for times and places!!!

Was it like for like year wise?
I have seen comparisons where they have chosen an MGF aagainst a fairly new Mx5 and criticised the F for looking dated when they should have compared with the TF.

They Didn't say, But it was a MK1 MX5, Having now fully read the article, instead of the just looking at the pictures and the final score, The MGF was recommend as a Daily Driver and the Car of choice for driving across Europe

Well, that's a positive compared to the usual drivel that's perpetuated in some magazines.
