Haha, that is a can of worms you're looking at there.p38 wrote: Hi everyone , i am new to the site and i want to know which is the best an mgf or tf as i want to buy one for my wife as she likes them. Many thanks p38 {Don]
Both MGF and MGTF have their fans, some like both equally.
If we knew your idea of how much you want to spend, might point you one way or another. :yesnod:
Obviously the TF is newer than the F, but early TFs had a very harsh ride. The F comes in three engine outputs 120, 143, and 160 bhp.(all 1.8l)
Also the TF comes in different engine sizes 1.6 and 1.8litre. The 1.6 is 115, the 1.8 comes in 135 or 160bhp.
There is also an automatic version of both.

Ps: prices above are wild guestimates other than the 1400, but it gives you something to think about.

Interestingly, because of the silly way the gov. works out how much we pay on vehicle tax the 'F' 1.8 will save you a £30 quid a year over the standard TF 1.8. :silly:

My daughter had an mgf 1.8i vvc which was very fast, lots went wrong but that's not to say they all go wrong. I now have a mgtf 1.8 120 stepspeed (semi auto gearbox) which my wife loves to bits because it's so easy to drive, especially in traffic and on hills. I've only had it for 3 weeks or so myself. Still thrilled with it.

As the lads said they are both equally good cars. both of which have great features.
The best thing is to look for a car in superb shape that has had it's major (expensive) maintenance items done recently (Timing belt, Head gasket), and is free of rust with excellent paint, interior and hood. Even first class cars can be bought for silly prices.
Good luck with the hunt. You are in for some fun!

If you like the look of an F then the F is for you, likewise, if you like the look of the TF then the TF is for you.
The TF is a more "sportier" ride than the F in general. I think Harsh is a harsh word to use, as it is a matter of taste. I know that I am not the only one who prefers the more go-cart like handling of the TF, especially in the twisties. I know people who have moved to the TF from an F and prefer the TF handling, but it is all down to personal taste.
The only real test is to drive a few models and compare them. Only you can tell which is best for you.
