Electronic Boot Release
I've managed to thread the wire from the boot catch to the central console and I have doctored a spare rear foglight switch to operate the release
I have changed the front of the switch for a switch blank and it's fitted where the front foglight switch would go (I don't have front fogs). This means the switch is effectively hidden 'in plain sight'
I have read numerous threads regarding where to take the live connection from but it occured to me that in my old car the release only worked when the engine was off, which made sure you couldn't open the boot by mistake whilst driving. Is there a place where I can get a conection that will only be live when the engine is off?

a very good idea. From my limited knowledge of lectrickery, I'd say you need a relay of some sort.
there...really helpful

Fit a normally closed relay in the circuit. Wire the coil to the ignition.
With this configuration, you will have a supply to your boot release button with the ignition off, but if you switch the ignition on the coil will energise, opening the relay contact and break the supply to the button.
It does mean that you can open the boot with no ignition on. Not something I would like as it would be a security risk.
