hoses to coolant pipes

hi all,

got to change my coolant pipes due to a big leak, stainless pipes on the way, but wondered if any knew what size jubilee clips and bolts i would need to use, there is a kit on ebay but i thought £15 was a bit much for what is in it. any help would be great thanks. cholly69

Being used to cars with simple cooling systems when I see that picture it scares the living daylights out of me.
Every one of those hoses and hose clamps conjures up images of a roadside failure
particularly as every hose in my car is now over 15 years old :ohmy:
I am very tempted to invest in one of the silicone hose sets just for peace of mind.

Have you got a price for a silicone hose set?? may be cheaper to buy a new car :shrug: B &G do a stainless engine pipe set, about £65 plus carriage. And there is a pipe that fails quite often because it is so close to the exhaust manifold. Silicone is a good idea with stainless clips (will last for ever) might be better t replace with rubber now and new stainless clips which should last another 15 years. :omg: :thumbsup:

Good stainless steel 40mm dia hose clips will cost you about £4 each and there are six on the underfloor pipes between front and back, the OEM sprung type are wider than normal Jubilee clips and some stainless ones are very narrow and will cut into the rubber. :broon:

Here is a set that is up on E-bay. TF Hose Auction One of the fellows from another forum was involved in their making these and apparently it can be adapted for the F. It doesn't include the small hoses to the overflow tank or the rad hoses. They say the overflow hoses can be made up from straight stock, but I don't know what the solution would be for the rad.
As for clamps, I live close to a good marine hardware store and they have some very nice wide stainless clamps that give 360 degree clamping on the hoses.

I must confess I don't understand the diagram yet but, after several days under the car, I know what the state the rubber hoses that come from the under floor pipes look like on mine (not that great).

I would defo be interested in a MGF set - perhaps we could get a discount for the forum?

Also, if I was changing the pipes it would give me room to fix the backplate at the same time

MIKALOR clamps are te ones you want, all stanless, 360 degree clamp and a 20mm wide band, a 40to50 mm size is about £4 if you buy one, lower if more are bought. sounds like the ones you have in your local marine store. these hose clips were being sold at Stoneleigh in Febuary and the guy had run out, he said he could have sold twice the amount. that silicone hose kit looks a reasonable price, i think the OEM rubber front hoses are around £40 each. i thought there were more than 8 hoses on a full system. :omg:

There are Bryan but this kit is just for the major hoses in the engine compartment. It doesn't include the front rad hoses or the small bore hoses for the catch tank. I will have to try and find the thread where the set was discussed in detail.
I would like to put a set of these on the car before winter. That is when I seem to have cooling problems and it is miserable changing hoses under a car outside in the middle of winter! Unfortunately replacing my shot gearlever assembly is now at the top of the repair/mod list. We have beautiful sunny weather and I am reduced to driving my old TR7 FHC

Rich, sorry to see you are stil having problems with the F.

You need to sell the TR7 and get a second F - I think your car is lonely!

I am sure you looked at it but can you re-bush the gearlever assembly?

Strange you have cooling problems in the winter.Why do you think that happens as your winter climate is not severe!

We tend to use the heater and defogger a lot here in the winter wheras it is shut off the rest of the year.. I suppose it' just seems that more goes wrong in the winter as it is so much more memorable to have to crawl under a dripping car with the cold wind blowing through the carport! You tend to forget the summer repairs when conditions are more pleasant.
It may be possible to rebush the lever but for the trouble to change it I may as well get the improved version.
It's a darn good thing I didn't go down to Arizona with you. It would have been challenging to make it back with a broken selector cable!
