Coolant hose question

Following on from a recent comment about replacing coolant pipes and radiators, does anyone recommend changing any of the rubber hoses at the same time? Do they all deteriorate at the same rate? I was surprised that nobody seems to sell a "complete hose kit" for F/TF. Just curious about what people think for future reference! :unsure:

I would say that it would be advisable to inspect the hoses and replace any that are worn or overly soft. With the price of the hoses you really only want to replace those that show signs of imminent failure!
That said, I have a set of silicone hoses from Roose Motorsport in the front hall waiting to be installed. :yesnod:
They are the closest available to a complete hose kit but they don't include ALL of the hoses for the car. They don't do the rad hoses yet.

I know that on my old F, when one hose popped, the others followed in succession over that year. The engine bay ones anyway.. Myself, if one went I would swap the lot out, OAT isn't cheap and if you factor in two, possibly three lost coolant loads before you have replaced all the hoses, it doesn't cost quite as much to do them in one go.
Plus its peace of mind..

What is the advantage of silicone hoses over rubber hoses?

The silicone hoses withstand higher pressures, temps and are generally stronger.
Once installed, you can pretty much forget about having hose issues unless something causes a mechanical failure (cutting them with cheap clamps, abrasion, etc.)

Also Silicone doesn't deteriorate with time or exposure to chemicals, as the standard rubber hoses do.

And of course, you can get them in nice bright colours! :yesnod:

I think the only silicon kit available at the moment is for the TF with a PRT thermostat. It is produced by Roose and sold on ebay. It will fit the MGF but needs a few extra bits and pieces.

My kit cost me 180.-odd with the extra hose needed to plumb the overflow tank etc. I understand the PRT kit can be modded to work with a non-PRT car. I have been putting of installing mine as I have been considering installing a PRT as well. The PRT itself is easy to come by but I haven't come up with a source for all the hose connectors yet.
