Been away ( Daawn Sarf ) for a long week end ( visiting both sons ) in the Oxford area. I must say that it was very disappointing not to get a descent road, clear of traffic, road works or crashes to drive on. Are the only decent roads left in this country in the North ? Even the M1, normally good for a burst or two had a 25 mile road works just south of the M18, No workers in site of course !

well in my opinion the roads up here are terrible........

very poorly maintained
loads of tractors and other very slow moving things.... sheep, cows, horses etc
sunday drivers every day of the week
mud, diesel and other slippy substances hiding just around the corner (see above)
always the possibilty of snow and ice being soo far north
can't go more then 3 mile without seeing a speed camera

that should help deter a few!

Yep, they are terrible up here. No way would you want to come up here. :shake:

By the way Phil. I was thinking of organising a driveout next year up to and around Kielder. Would you be up for those terrible roads? Maybe even stop to walk the wippets and have a picnic?

What about mobile cameras? At least you know where fixed ones are.

That road from Kildale to Whitby ( Esk Valley ) now thats a road thats impossible to drive on don`t you agree ? Wippets and Yorkshire Puddings all over the place and only one of the pubs on route serving warm beer, and thats the one with electricity !

that sounds canny...... i would suffer that horrible run out only if others wanted to go..........

we could even head up to the carter bar ( thats a really nasty bit of road)and throw some sticks at the scots.

let me know if you want a trial run, at least with two cars theres the chance one will make it back unscathed
