Just wondered if any "novice" mechanics on here had changed a rear sphere? My rear left needs replacing and I'm trying to pluck up the courage. I will wait unti Spring assuming I can keep pumping the hydragas up until then.

Without being rude are you 100% that the sphere is the problem? Have you identified where the leak is coming from?

Not done this myself, but I would not put it outside the reach of a competent novice. Before you begin make sure you have all the parts and tools required. The problems you come across will be the usual ones of seized nuts and bolts refusing to play ball.
Remember that you are not alone and there will be lots of online support from the members on here and maybe, if you offer copious amounts of liquid refreshments and Bacon butty's, someone near you may be able to come over and help / laugh when you scrape your knuckles / tell you I told you so or even give you a hand when you've finished, telling you 'You're brave mate, I wouldn't have tried that if it were mine.'
Do your homework wait for the good weather and I'm sure you'll do fine

Haven't 100% confirmed it, but symptoms fit perfectly. Drops in a few weeks on left side with the majority of the fall at the rear. I have a pump (not vacuum) so can pump it up again reasonably well (I am used to purging air from hydraulics from my days in the air force!) so do ensure there are no bubbles in the pump hose prior to connection.
