I've heard dental floss is good for getting them off, wont damage your paint wrok but you can get behind it and in a sawing action.

i heated my one up using a hair dryer ,this will soften up the glue and then used a thin plastic spatula to lift it off.

I bought just the thin metal printed part, not the mount as well. I got the old one off by heating with a hair dryer and then teasing a corner up with a craft knife, .then steadily pulling and heating until it was all off Laquering them is supposed to slow fading down by filtering out the UV. I went over mine with some cheap clear nail varnish and so far so good. I do also keep the car under a cover as well though.
Oh,and clean thoroughly with white spirit before fitting the new one.

Heat with hair dryer, lift edge with plastic spatula and use a double dental floss to saw away at the glue, clean off all old adhesive with meths and apply new badge. note the enammeled metal ones should not fade, it is the plastic ones that fade.
