A way to get lines bob on when there is no datum is to either trial and error with masking tape by eye or keep pinging a chalk line until it looks right.
I must admit i am not fan, but many like them and its a personal thing.
It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..
