Since buying my ZT-T and moving the insurance over to it, I had the chance to drop the TF onto a classic car policy.
Best one I found was Peter Best.
Really helpful over the phone, quick in getting the documents over to me and by far the cheapest quote I got.
My 160 came in under £150 with breakdown cover included!
Really pleased with the service!

Like Andy's wife, I got a great deal with Lancaster for my TF, but the next year it doubled & they couldn't say why.
Now I have a ZR160 & am newly insured with Lloyds bank, the cheapest quote!
Also inc. is my E320 Merc.

Thanks for the Peter Best recommendations in this thread. I have been with Adrian Flux, but their 2018 quote is a joke, as is their telephone manner. I'll be calling Peter Best later this week.
Does anyone have other recommendations for insurance - especially for non-standard cars? Roxy has had a VVC conversion, Bilsteins, Kmaps and a TT mk7 exhaust.
Also, should I tell DLVA about the engine upgrade?
Thanks in advance,
Winko

I am with Peter Best too. They do like to see a club membership to compliment the classic status of your vehicle. I am a member with the Potteries and South Cheshire MG owners club, and at £10 a year for membership, is much cheaper than joining any of the national clubs.
Also I have my TF insured for a guaranteed sum, so if it does get written off, I should get what its really worth, and not what the book value is.
I have six months to run the insurance, so not sure how the renewal price will jump come next autumn when its due.
But as it stands at the moment, I am very pleased with my policy with them.

I am with Lancaster £125 a year not bad, plus £40 breakdown cover, if you have a mg and don't have breakdown cover, you could be stuck anywhere

With regards the Peter Best insurance and my TF . I have it on a restricted mileage of 5000 p/a and an agreed valuation . Now I am ok with this restriction but , does anyone on here know of the penalties of going over that mileage . Do the Insurance companies check the records of the DVLA ? As I am typing this my wife is getting quotes for her ( our ) Classic Mini, as this years renewal has turned up and is £339 fully comp with the Halifax. SAGA , ( yes we are old ! ) has come up with £142 ! The Mini is not what I would call average in condition as it has been very well cared for so, until we speak to someone about the SAGA quote it's hard to say what is going on with the two quotes . It is always a confusing subject with insurance as the buggers want your cash but rarely want to pay out without a load of grief

Hi
I would not insure a mini of that standard on a "domestic" type policy. Specialist policy is a must, if you are to realise the true value if you were unfortunate enough to make a claim!
As far as limited mileage policies, I do not think they check, but if you made a claim, then they would almost certainly check the mileage! Mileage is always recorded and made public when you get an MOT!
However if you are going to go over the mileage limit, all you have to do is cancel the policy, and take out another one. Maybe you will loose a month or two, but might still be cheaper than on a non limited mileage policy.

I would shop around, and yes they do check the mileage from the dvla, you need to take photographs of your mini and get a price on it as condition and any add on's it has. lancaster are ok. but always quote mileage over, that way you will have no problems. nice mini tho. good luck
