Anything corrosive will damage the pump, I would just washing up liquid and warm water.SundanceUK wrote: Try a dishwasher tab. Works in the coolant header tanks. Maybe a bit of added bleach too.

A hand full of gravel, a drop of washing up liquid, a bit of water and a lot of vigorous shacking can work well.
Good quality screen wash helps keep it clean.
