Posted 6 years 7 months ago #184836First off I called Peter Best Insurance Services and they came back with 2 quotes, one if I was a member of the MGCC at £125.20 or as a none member £268.00.
Then I phoned SAGA as I have several policies with them, ahhhhhhhhhhh no real interest and a quote of £242.64.
Then I tried Scenic Insurance as I have my motorhome with them, but all they would do was to pass me on to Swinton who own them and their quote was £265.00
Finally I phoned Lancaster Insurance, initially they gave me a quote for £182.00 with no preference for me being either a member or not of the MGOC. The lad I was speaking to asked how their price looked to which I answered not very good, so I told him about the figure I had been quoted by PBIS, I was put on hold for a couple of minutes so he could speak to his manager following which he came back with a new quote of only £135 with no need for me to be a member of any club.
So you can guess which company I am now using to insure 'Madge' and I won't be joining any club as I am not into club type get togethers!! But to be honest I am a member of a cycling club which is next to no use for me as there isn't a single member who likes to ride at the same fast 20+mph average speeds as I almost always do!!

Posted 6 years 7 months ago #184843Very cheap first year, but on renewal, the price trebled for no apparent reason.
They could not explain why it had increased so much.
Obviously renewed elsewhere.

It was a strange feeling I experienced when speaking to the bod at Lancaster Insurance as that is exactly what I felt would be the case in a years time, so I passed comment on my concerns and was assured by him that this would not be the case and indeed he believed my premium might even come down due to me gaining some no claims discount. We shall see!!
With my self built motorhome I initially took out insurance with Adrian Flux Insurance but the 2nd year their quoted premium rocketed, so I switched to the specialist company Scenic (who only offer motorhome insurance) and year on year their premiums are very balanced as is my experience also with the NFU & SAGA but with regards to the latter, you have to watch them like a hawk as they try to slide other items of cost onto the premium each and every year!
If only all insurance companies were as professional as the NFU, I just wish they were more competitive when it comes to motor policies as they are such a pleasure to do business with.
And finally as for joining a MG or indeed any other motoring club, one of the main reasons I wouldn't ever participate in any of their events is that I am very/exceptionally fortunate to share my life with 3 rescued Springer Spaniels and their welfare and value of life comes very well before anything else in our lives.
