Trophy 160 wheels
I am an old fart and find the ride a bit hard especially given the current states of the roads.
Could I fit a standard set? Where could I find some with reasonable tyres at good price?

They will be 16" with 40 profile Tyres, people report softer rides on 15" wheels, you should find 15" wheels easily and reasonably cheap as most people want 16s but if you have the 304mm front discs and calipers you are stuck with 16s I'm afraid as 15s will not fit over the calipers.davidej wrote: Am I right in thinking they are larger diameter and fitted with lower profile tyres than a standard MGF?

I have just measured the clearance at the front and it's only about 8mm so I can see that the smaller wheels would not fit.
Would it be mad (illegal?) to just fit them at the back? After all that is where most of the spine-jarring jolts come from.

Could it be that the F's suspension needs a pump up, or even the spheres need re-gassing?

It would be MAD
It would be ILLEGAL
And worst of all it would INVALIDATE your insurance
My 2001 'F' 1.8i isn't one of those whizz bang whollop Trophy machines but it is fitted with 16" wheels, but as the Hydragas suspension is in amazingly tip top condition then the ride isn't at all bad................... And with a spine like mine I can assure you that anything other than a magic carpet ride would have my spine screaming in next to no time !!!!

You could change the front calipers to standard to allow smaller wheels all round but you would loose the better braking you get in a trophy. Another way to go would be to swap the shocks and spheres to those on a mk2 VVC, but the handling wouldn't be quite as sharp.
Either way you go would probably cost a few bob and you would loose a lot of what makes a Trophy a Trophy. It's your car though.
If it were me I'd get a TF160 with the comfort pack fitted
