Creaking steering wheel column
Hi,
I'm getting a creaking noise and a feeling of very slight 'play' from Roxy's steering column when going over bumps, or when putting lateral pressure on the wheel. It's almost as if a bulkhead strengthening strut has come loose - but it's welded I believe.
I've checked the wheel adjustment clamp and that seems fine. I've also re-packed the front suspension with grease - which had no effect. Steering feels perfect and a quick look at bushes etc doesn't reveal anything ominous.
Before I start stripping the binnacle etc, is there something obvious I'm missing?
Thanks in advance,
Winko

HI there,
just one thing I can think off-had something similar on our old MGF-as the steering movement shifts the load on the suspension its worth lubricating the lower bushes on both lower sus. arms .
I use a silicon spray I get from Halfords -last ages on any rubber bushes .
I assume you have greased the front grease points ( MGF and TF )

Hi TC,
I hadn't thought of that, but having just looked at various forum How-to's it's a definite possibility, as Roxy's got 75K on her and she's used all year round. I'm just about to have both front wings replaced and a paint tidy up, so the front panel's coming off. I'll therefore add a full inspection of the mounting points to the list.
Great call. Thank you.
