just to add a bit more to this -when I last traced out the total boot wiring there was no less than 9 independent wires in the boot loom to control all the functionality -that's without any additional boot release wiring.
Its no wonder then that any breaks or shorts in the boot loom can cause electrical mayhem or at worst fires.

If the cover is available, I will try to source one as it tidies up the boot a bit...apart from that, I think your boot release mechanism is pretty much standard.

It's not on my 1999 Mk2 F and I can't find it in Rimmers catalogue. If anyone knows where to source these I would be interested because as Sundance said, it does tidy the boot a bit.
