Replacing suspension arm bushes

I'm replacing the suspension arm bushes with poly bushes, but am struggling to get the old bushes out. I've tried using a slave bolt and tube but haven't been able to shift the centre tube - are they bonded in? Any hints on how to remove the old bushes?

You could try soaking them in plusgaz overnight and see if that releases them, or apply some heat to the suspension arm bush housing, or burn them out.

I removed mine by using a large engineers vice and two big sockets - one socket large enough that the bush could push into and a smaller one to push the bush through the wishbone. They were quite tight but once they began to move they came out ok.
I am lucky as I work in an engineering maintenance workshop where the sockets and vice were available, although we do have a couple of useful presses.
I reckon that they may pull out using the large sockets or tube and a length of threaded studding and a couple of nuts, failing that you could try burning them out.
The bushes are not bonded in, just a tight fit - as they should be.

Got them out by cutting the outer lip off each bush, then drew them out one at a time using M10 studding through both bushes. Used a nut and standard washer on one end and a large washer larger than the suspension arm sleeve on the other. This worked, and the sleeve is bonded to the rubber - I suspect the bushes fitted to original arms are one piece items installed in a large press with lashings of rubber lubricant.

One of the best lubricants for popping bushes in is fairy liquid. Nice and slippy in its undiluted form. Its also non reactive with the rubber, some oil based lubricants can cause the rubber to deteriorate.

Agreed, used to use it for changing motorcycle tyres - that and the Johnsons Baby powder on the inner tube made the bike smell lovely :)

The phrase: "Fairy liquid" sounds like a suspect byproduct of an alterative lifestyle! :omg: :bust:

You are so not British, Fairy Liquid has been a British institution for decades, a household name, it is the UKs premier washing up liquid.

Personally would not use washing up liquid on rubber components, very high salt content. I use either silicone grease or ptfe spray. Alternatively if you want to use something from your household stores then KY jelly is an excellent choice 😊
