i appreciate that fitting DRLs can be an emotive topic ( bit like Brexit🙂) but does anyone have experience of fitting these?

They replace the indicators, and operate as DRLs except when indicating, like some modern cars do I believe

The chinese writing on the box doesn't exactly fill me with confidence! :bust:
Depending upon your local juristiction they could possibly be against the regulations.

A different way of installing DRL's. It looks like the indicator lamp holder is removed and the dummy "bulb" fitted to the lamp holder, then the LED lamp is popped into the indicator lens.
I can't see any issues with the legality of the the unit if it works how it should as you would be keeping the headlight bulbs as standard halogens. Since the DRL turns off when the indicator is operated, it should be fine legally, and present no problems when its MOT time.
Easier to fit than Halo rings, but maybe not as effective or dramatic.

I agree the Chinese writing made me think twice, but they are marketed by HQ Automotive an established UK company, so hopefully not another dodgy far eastern product. All their other DRL lights state compliance with the appropriate DRL certification, but not these. I might drop them a line and ask about compliance.

If I wanted drl I would prefer the halos...cheaper just to run around with the sidelights on all the time....I've got 2 cars with drls has standard ...what is the advantage?

My dark grey TF is camoflaged by the tarmac - I had enough when 3 people in a hour pulled out on me. Now with my Halos - touch wood - its not happened yet. Side lights are not so visible in daylight - unless you fit bright LED's

The idiots out there will still pull out on you even if you had working rocket launchers on the roof with a licence to use them...only this morning I was driving one of these.

A fair sized car..brightly coloured with daytime running lights..time 9.30am...a taxi starts to reverse across the road as I aproach...it stops has if he his waiting for me to pass....has I got closer he pulled out more causing me to brake and he avoided eye contact and drove off...I can tell people's names by looking at them...his was mohammad gonkhead...he never gave me the opportunity to wave at him.. ....today's lifestyle of driving is very different..it's more like wacky races.

The only sure way of beating those pull out think later drivers is to buy and drive around in a battle tank.

They aren't road legal. You cannot fit an LED bulb in to a housing not designed for an LED bulb. End of :) And since no one makes LED compatible assemblies for our cars, they won't be road legal and therefore you risk invalidating your insurance.

The MOT test only tests colour, not type-approval or legality.

You can't even replace the number plate lamps with LED's. No, I kid you not. Not legally anyway!

Good point, I'd forgotten about the illegality of LEDs in non-LED fittings. I've sent a query to the company who market them, it'll be interesting to see what they have to say.

Are Halos legal? or LED's fitted within the headlight? (MGTF 2004).
