Another concern was a vacuum for the brake servo when running electric only, it turns out quite a few main stream cars use an electric vacuum pumps so that'll be easy to source, and wouldn't be a bad idea on the F anyway with its long vacuum line.

I can see the benefits of mating an electric motor to a PG1 box, although a DC drive should be capable of handling all speeds and loads without the use of gears, but the clutch facility would be possibly desirable if you did not want the car to function like an automatic.
Many options, all electric would also be an interesting way to go,electric motors front and rear - keeping your intended four wheel drive.
I am thinking now of reliability, running and servicing costs.
With news coming out from China that the new MG roadster due in a couple of years will be all electric, and with the media attention given to the MG E-motion concept car unveiled last year at Shangai, dropping an electric engine into a F or TF would be a timely modification.
Most of us know that MG-Rover developed a Hybrid TF with the 200 HPD back in 2003. Maybe this design could be the ideal template for a electro-internal combustion engine vehicle. Looking at pictures of the HPD, the drive motor housed inside the bonnet area looks like a standard electric forklift truck drive motor, or something fitted to a Bradshaw type electric utility vehicle. Maybe,TC, this is where you start your project development.
On the same topic, I saw a BMW i3 drive through our village yesterday. Strange to hear the whistle of silicone controlled rectifiers instead of the normal exhaust note!

Many converted manual cars use third as a default but having a higher gear for cruising will stretch battery life.
