Additional straps are required between the third hoop and the rear fixing bar when fitting a fixed glass screen hood to a frame which previously had a plastic screen hood in order to support the additional weight of the glass.

On the hood i've bought, which i believe is a genuine later hood, there is a 'pocket' sewn into the hood at the rear with a cut out in the approximate position where i think the strap would fix, however i've been told the additional strap is usually fitted to the rear bar by trapping it between the hood and bar when riveting.

is this pocket for attaching the additional strap to, by feeding it through, and inserting a bar in the pocket to spread the load? The additional straps you can buy from Rimmers have two sets of holes punched in them, which would fit in with feeding them through the slot and fixing back on itself.

Can anyone with a later hood like this confirm if this is correct, and could they please post photos of how the additional straps are fixed at each end? I considered buying the additional straps from Rimmers, but decided £24 was a bit steep for webbing which cost me £2 from the market.

I can't remember exactly but I think I used rivets and washers to anchor the webbing to the metal band at the back edge of the hood.

I replaced the original metal band with a strip of metal strip for banding pallets that we use at work.

I used the webbing from some seat belts from a scrap yard MG, I recall it to have been a ZT but I suspect it was a 3 door ZR as the belts are actually longer.
