noisy exhaust
Over the last weeks I heard a rattling noise from the rear when accelerating.
Guess it could be the toyosport ss exhaust touching the subframe or anything else. Before getting her onto ramps for further investigation:
any ideas for a heat-resistant soundproofing on the exhaust?
Thank you in advance
Regards
Christof

Hi Christof.
First point of call would be to see if the exhaust is touching the central bracket where the two rear track arms connect to the subframe.
I noticed yesterday when I replaced the two arms on my TF that my catalytic converter only has about 2mm of clearance from the bolthead that secures the left hand side arm.
Its common to hear reports of people having a knocking sound on their MG, then finding that its the Cat bumping against the securing bolt.

Here is a quick picture showing just how close the Cat is to the rear arm anchor point. Had to undo the Cat to move it a little so I could get the left hand bolt out when I replaced the rear long arms this week.

If the rattle is more like "gravel in a tin can" then more likely the catalitic converter internals are breaking up, and will end up inside the silencer.
Look underneath and give the exhaust a good violent shake to see if it is an external noise first, as suggested.
If it is only just started doing it, it could be a broken mounting.

@Sundance:
There's a lot of clearance to the cat, took two pictures.
Everything is solid, no idea about the noise.
