hi,can anyone tell me the torqe settig for the engine sump bolt. as the one i have fitted has seen it's last days and the washer is caput.thanks

The sump plug washer is brass or copper and crushes when you tighten the plug, it should be discarded and replaced every time you change the oil. They are only a few pence.

I think they are aluminium; certainly, that is what I have always been supplied. And yes, replace every time.

Dowtys can stand some temperature, we use them on hydraulic power packs that can get up to 90 celsius before the oil passes through a chiller and back to tank, I have never used them on sump bolts before, but as long as the bolt shoulder is clean and the sump hole clean, I can see why Mr Bluestreak prefers to use them, they should provide a better seal as the neoprene seal is quite flexible. If you have trouble seating a copper or aluminium washer, a Dowty may be the answer.

I've never swapped my sump washer on any car I've serviced. I feel I'm missing out so I've bought some. £2.15 for 20 :broon: Hope they fit :lol:
