Probably next time I'm buggerising about with the wiring, you might be able to use the rear window demister switch, to a relay, I'd need to check the wiring diagram to see it this is possible, not now though as I can't be arsed.

Probe in place and a reading from the meter was taken while the ignition was off.
And then the ignition was turned on and slowly and surely that temp began to rise...
Didnt stop to find out how high the temp would rise...but I did feel the passenger mirror and sure that was warm....so yep both heated mirrors work...using the meter proved the point....so if you have cold hands while out in the garage you can warm them on your mirrors😆

Gavin207 wrote: Thanks, interestingly I have the original owners handbook and it says the electric mirrors have heating elements, implying that the manual ones don't. I'll have a feel after my next journey to see if either still work.
Since MG/Rover/Austin started fitting electrically adjustable mirrors they were also heated all the time and manually adjusted ones weren't heated.
There are a couple of exemptions, manual MGF mirrors were heated and the Honda engine Rovers had heated mirrors that were switched.
I don't know about the 75/ZT, they were basically BMW 5 series in English clothes.
The mirror motors and control switches were outsourced, they were also used by VW, Renault and Ford and probably others.
