I have a late 2004 TF115 with manual door mirrors. However it appears to have an ignition controlled live feed ( green wire) to the mirror. Is this a heated mirror feed, and if so how is it controlled - I can only assume via temperature sensor in the mirror?

No, for the sake of cheapness the mirror heater is on all the time until one of the heater tracks burn through, and then they never heat, a poor design dating back to the '80s and the maestro!

Thanks, interestingly I have the original owners handbook and it says the electric mirrors have heating elements, implying that the manual ones don't. I'll have a feel after my next journey to see if either still work.

Had a quick feel this morning after the drive into work - 15 years and 91k miles on and they are still working - who says MG Rover components don't last :)

I've thought about putting a switch into the circuit to turn the mirror heaters off.
Probably next time I'm buggerising about with the wiring, you might be able to use the rear window demister switch, to a relay, I'd need to check the wiring diagram to see it this is possible, not now though as I can't be arsed.

I've got a temperature sensor on one of my multimeters...might just stick the sensor to the mirror glass to see if owt happens.

So out I went to the depths of my garage with a mission to see if I' have working heated mirrors....just wanted to see if the tf was there really..soon be time to take her out again....armed with my multimeter I proceeded to a tach the temp probe to my tf mirror.

Probe in place and a reading from the meter was taken while the ignition was off.

And then the ignition was turned on and slowly and surely that temp began to rise...

Didnt stop to find out how high the temp would rise...but I did feel the passenger mirror and sure that was warm....so yep both heated mirrors work...using the meter proved the point....so if you have cold hands while out in the garage you can warm them on your mirrors😆

Since MG/Rover/Austin started fitting electrically adjustable mirrors they were also heated all the time and manually adjusted ones weren't heated.

There are a couple of exemptions, manual MGF mirrors were heated and the Honda engine Rovers had heated mirrors that were switched.
I don't know about the 75/ZT, they were basically BMW 5 series in English clothes.

The mirror motors and control switches were outsourced, they were also used by VW, Renault and Ford and probably others.

My TF115 definitely has manual mirrors with working heater elements, and going by the rest of the car they are original.
