Looks remarkably similar to the LDV Maxus . I thought a Russian company had bought the tooling but might be owned by a Chinese Co.

Yes very true . It's to be hoped they are fitting a better engine than the truly dreadful Chrysler VM engine that was fitted to the Maxus and the London Taxi TX4 . I have seen engines with delivery mileage seize up due to the crap design of the centre main carrier
. They might have improved it by now but that engine was a bag of nails . Makes the K Series engine look brilliant.

I remember doing a routine service on a VM engined TX4 taxi which included an oil and filter service plus auto gear box service ,went on a short road test and checked the 'kick down ' gear change at about 30 mph and the engine just locked up . I drifted to the side of the road and thought .....ok. ....Did I tighten the sump plug ? ? ? Got out and yes the plug was still there . Did I forget to put oil in the engine ? Nope ......full of oil ! Engine solid ! Recovered back to workshop and found that the engine had locked up on the center main bearing . Mileage of engine, 12000 mls . As I say they might be better now but compared to the Nissan engined TX1 which went on for ever , the VM Chrysler unit was pants ! I'll get off my soap box now . :nonod:

I had a brand new ldv pickup truck in about 2005...it had the ford transit running gear......not a bad engine but that dual mass flywheel sure gave it problems...I coverd 6000 miles and heard what I discribe has a chuntering....the method of the day was to take the crank sensor out and metal swarf had collected on it....apparently this was a fault with them.has the rivets holding them together would self distruct. ..the next thing I think the starter would give up.........had dual mass flywheel replaced under warranty to find it went again after about the same mileage....in the end it had a solid flywheel fitted has a conversion but it was horrible in traffic jams...

That would be the Ford Duratorq engine with the dual mass flywheel. On the London Taxi when I was employed by them I could do a gearbox out ,clutch assembly out, dual mass change in 50 mins . Due to Ford lying like a gud un to The London Taxi Co when we used their powertrain about problems with the DMF , we would regularly get half a dozen customers in per day wanting their cabs sorting out . The crud that clogged the starter motors from the flywheel was like powdered metal . The amount of warranty back then was truly amazing .!
