Remove airbox resonator?

Remove airbox resonator? was created by g7nbp

Has anyone found a way of removing the airbox resonator (item 31 in the diag) without having to drop the subframe as the manual suggests is required?
The original airbox is long gone, replaced by my K&N cone filter, but i would like to run a corrugated hose down to the air vent to blow some extra cool dense air onto the filter and the resonator is kinda in the way.

I dont want to resort to a lump hammer as removal tool if I can avoid it...

thoughts?????

Cut it up with hacksaw blades and yank it out in bits.

Thats pretty much the conclusion I had come to, but was hoping there was a non-destructive alternative.

OMFG!

That was a non-trivial bit of sawing!! 2 hours - I kid you not! I kept sawing another bit off and hoping the remainder would wriggle out. Nope....

There are photos, but I'm still too traumatized to sort through them. I may need counseling first!

Anyway, resonator gone, corrugated induction hose fitted into air vent and clamped next to air filter.

This however is nolonger my main worry, as I noticed a blown seal on the bottom of the gearbox. I will start a new "best way to fixit?" thread with pics of that too. Doh!

Sorry to be too late to the party...……..

I cut mine down to leave the outer section which now acts as a splash shield.

They were installed on the sub frame before the engine and gearbox.

I had set out to do that, but just couldn't get the angles I needed so just cut it into chunks. I will probably put a splash panel of some kind in later, but I've been saying that about the alternator splash guard for ten years now...

I used a combination of a hacksaw blade and an 8mm drill bit. It's a swine of a job.
If you ever decide to fit a TF airbox make sure you get the mounting bracket, the F one is different.

Hi G7BNP--I did my resonator removal the old cut up way-then found out that it was possible to remove the resonator without hacking it to bits.

you need to remove the curved part of the res box ( it pulls out ) then you can waggle the res box upwards

too late for you now
