Wiring DRL lights
Started the wiring for DRL lights I intend mounting in the fog light recesses of my 2004 TF. the relay that comes with the lights has three wires - earth, switched live and headlight connection. The lights come on with the switched live, and go off when the 'headlight' wire goes live.
My question is where best to connect the 'headlight ' connection. Unlike modern cars the headlights can be turned on when the ignition is off, so connecting to the headlight switch feed they would never come on. However the side lights stay on with the headlights, so I could connect it to the side lights. Any thoughts?

I connected mine to the sidelights, I figured that it was the best signal to use. You would also not be able to see the sidelight over the brightness of the DRL's on mine as they are in the headlight unit. There is also the MOT issue of the DRL's dimming when the front lights are operated. Mine come on when the ignition is turned on, and dim when any lights are turned on.
Mounting yours down near the fog lights mean that you do not need to dim them when indicating, but mounting them in or close to the headlight unit will require the DRL to go off or turn to flashing amber when the turn signal is flashing.

Thanks Sundance. I've just realised that the dip beam stays on with main beam, so I could connect to that, however I think I'll do the same as you and connect to the side light.
