My MG TF lives out of doors and I am concerned about rain getting through the boot lit grill. I have an all weather cockpit cover, but it doesn't reach the grill. Does anyone know of a suitable weather proof cover?

To be honest I wouldn't worry about it . There isn't much that will come to harm .

Thank you for the thought, but better the rain out than in, I think.

I have had TF's for 15 years and they have always been outside in all weathers. No issues with having the boot vent open to the elements. Nothing to concern yourself with.

Yes, but have you had the same one for 15 years? And what was its condition at the end of it? These cars are the classics of the future and I hope to keep mine in excellent condition for many years. Allowing rain to get into the engine compartment cannot do it any good in the long term.

Well each to their own but my TF has had a good coat of Dinitrol including the sub frame and engine bay areas and has not suffered .

I've had my F for 9 years and she lives outside uncovered. I have noticed no ill effects of the open grill.

I've had my tf 5 years and I keep it in the garage and I cover it up with a full cover๐Ÿ˜‚...The cover I bought for about ยฃ30...bought cheaper ones had them 10 minutes and took them back for refund...the one I got I bought for the Mrs has I cast her car out from the garage and she wanted a cover..she soon got tired of putting it on and taking it off..so I tried it on the tf...brilliant fit it hugs the body and covers everything...is breathable etc..I looked for another not long back but I haven't yet come across one the same....I took 2 covers back until I got this one.still makes me laugh has the one I took back to argos stafford... i placed the cover which was no more than a flat tarpualin with dodgy strings on the counter ....the manager said I could only return it in the original packaging...it lay on the counter 14 times the size of what it was when I bought it...I gave her the slither of a clear plastic bag that it came in and said it took 6 chinese folk to fold that sheet and iron it to fit in that bag and I'm not even trying....I watched for what felt like a lifetime has she struggled to prove me wrong.......but at the end of the day if you are one of those that want to preserve tidy looks of any car then it's got to be a garage...and a heater and a radio,tv and loads of tools and food.and beer...so you best knock a hole in the lounge wall and let the tf in....you know you want to.

I had my first TF in 2004 and swapped it for my current one in 2015. Neither had been garaged.
I tend to find that the main problem with leaving the cars outside all of the time is more chance of rust to the usual risky parts of the bodywork, namely the edges of panels, such as wings, arches etc. The later TF's always did have less paint applied and my current grey TF is needing a few touch ups on a few places. Under the bonnet and boot are good, but I do need to address a bit of corrosion under the ABS modulator on the shelf it sits on.
My original TF never suffered from any bonnet or boot corrosion, but I did look after it from the start. My current one I have been gradually fixing up areas that need doing, trying to make it as good as possible. Its close but still some stuff to do.
The engine bay is very good and well tidy showing that the vents on the boot lid pose no issues. In fact they probably allow the engine bay to air better allowing moisture to disperse quicker.
I will be looking at getting the underside Dinitrol treatment also. Again, the subfames are solid, but as with most TF's and F's surface corrosion can build up after time.

I only cover the tf in the garage to help stop knocking it when working around it..
Well you have got to think now these are old cars...there are younger cars in scrapyards that are in far worse condition than most tfs....and from what I see when I visit garages it's a eye opener with problematic engines...forget hgf and the like ..that is just well publicised ...there are bmw cars out there having oil pumps changed at 70,000 before they blow...1 litre turbo engines struggling with strain...not only the other day I was wrestling with egr failure on a kia and servicing my 2016 dacia yesterday I looked up in dis gust at the dpf filter knowing it's a ticking time bomb..cars we had years ago had unsafe structures due to tin worm ..give me a tf anytime and after all the garaging mine has had I bet the condition is no different than Sundances. .just drive and enjoy them..and keep the shiny side up....out in mine today...enjoy driving it...trips trough the peak district are not the same in anything else..driving past the roaches and seeing unspoilt land that has been the same for years..greenery has far has the eye can see...while in the middle of a heatwave we stopped at a lay by near the old mermaid inn..overlooking the roaches and the Cheshire plains..the up draft was fantastic...roof down on the mg was relaxing ...people commenting you got the right car there.....I forget about the little dints in paintwork and the chaffing of paint around the arch seams and savour the moment of just driving it....I have long passed the point of wanting to change anything about it apart from a wiper blade on the passenger side it's ok...may have a pic or 2 later if the weather stays fine.not going anywhere near Whaley bridge hey!๐Ÿ˜†
The only problem around the abs module I had was the bracket showing a tinge of rust..removed polished paint underneath..may have put a smear of grease under it..painted that bracket black and fitted chrome nuts plus I put a sheaf on the loom has I didn't like to see too much pvc wound loom.

Oh and sundance if you think the paint is thin on your tf...maybe you have polished some microns away over the years.๐Ÿ˜‚

I hopefully will be rectifying the developing rust on the abs shelf next year when I do my two yearly brake fluid replacement. I will take the modulator off and repaint the tray. I have a new bracket ready and waiting.
I actually had a run up close to Whaley Bridge today, passing through Chapel En Le Frith on route to MGFnTFbitz.
Picked up a replacement boot liner, mine got buggered when a full bottle of plastic trim cleaner leaked all over it! While I was there, I booked Shadow in for an underbody restoration for November. Also a few other bits and pieces I needed.
I have seen the good work they do on our cars and it should help prolong the longevity of mine!
A great run back over the hills of the Derbyshire peaks and Staffs Moorlands. I do enjoy vising Bitz, a great reception always from the owners, good banter, cheap spares and a great drive through rural Derbyshire!

Didn't see any Chinooks fling over, Whaley Bridge was about six miles from where I turn to go to Glossop at Chapel En Le Frith, but saw the road blocks and the traffic that was re-routed around the area did congest the Chinley road a bit. Lets hope the dam stays intact and everyone is safe.
