I have just lost 5th and reverse gears on my MGTF. All other gears appear to be OK, and I have been able to drive home without any problems. It appears that the gear lever does not want to go into fifth or reverse. Has anyone suffered a similar problem or have any ideas what the problem could be. Any suggestions appreciated.
Alan

Sounds like a gear cable issue.

TC knows more than I do, for sure but, from some minor experience with awkward gear changes, I would start with the gear cables too. Probably best to investigate with two people - one in the car operating the stick and one underneath watching the linkage action. I'm pretty sure there is some adjustment available.

I hope you haven't broken a cable. If one has popped off the linkage, I believe a cable tie can be a very effective temporary fix.

It appears that it is cable problems. Garage identified some other issues as well. Anybody recommend an MG mobile mechanic. I would prefer someone who is familiar with MG problems.

Then Rough Luck Racing in North Yorkshire is probably your best bet in terms of distance. MG Rover Mobile Mechanics in Derby are regularly highly recommended too. There are others around.

I haven't used either of these companies but their names are often cited as excellent, as are others.
