Damaged thread in engine block?
I've changed the Cam belt, water pump and tensioner on my TF (subject of another thread). When replacing the 4 x 13mm bolts holding the part of the engine mounting to the block, one of the bolts is very tight in the thread. All the bolts came out ok and I swapped one of the bolts so I know it's the thread. What do people suggest I do, carry on and risk stripping the thread, I'm really not sure.
Thanks
Jon

What about running a correct sized tap into the hole to clean the threads?

Yeah retap the thread if the result is unsatisfactory, then you'll need to use a tread insert such as Helicoil or Recoil.

Best of luck with the tap as I agree with the advice given . However I am from the motor industry and have found that unless the bolt was originally cross threaded you may find that you will need a Helli coil to sort it out . This is due invariably to the bolt's coated plating failing allowing oxidization ( corrosion ) to occur between the threads .
Without the protection of the plating , mild steel and aluminium react against each other and when the bolt is removed it takes part of the aluminium thread with it . Keep us in formed and best of luck .

Get hold of a tap the same thread and run it down to clean up the thread.

The tap worked a treat. I ran it down the thread with a bit of grease and the bolt then screwed up ok. Had to admit I chickened out and didn't tighten it to full torque but tight nonetheless.
Thanks for all your advice.
