Replace stepspeed gearbox damper
Hi just joined this site and hoping someone has undertaken this work and can offer a step by step guide.
From research I have done it appears that it is possible to lower and tilt the rear sub frame sufficiently to remove the box without removing the engine. If anyone has done this could they please advise . Many thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum
I have done this on my manual mk1 but it was a faff.
The gear box came out with the clutch off but the fly wheel had to come out for it to go back in and then one had to refit the flywheel and clutch through a 3 inch gap.
Also you can't split the drive shafts, you have to remove the drive shaft from the diff and to do that you have to drain the gearbox fluid.
Finally you have to roll the box over 180' in its space to let it drop out.
If I was doing it again I would probably drop the subframe.
