Am I correct in thinking that the head gasket has or is failing.
MG TF 2005 model year 49,000 miles
This was dipped out of the expansion tank.
I only did the cam belt at Christmas and have'nt used a tankful of fuel since.
Any helpful comments?

Well oil in the coolant usually looks like tockley snot. was that shit floating on the surface? Or did you dreadge it up from the bottom of the tank? It looks a bit like some sort of head gasket sealing goop.
Do a compression test and a cooling system pressure test, to rule out head gasket failure.

Hi Cobber,
It was floating in the expansion tank, I put the cardboard in and it stuck when I pulled it out. There is no evidence that the HG has ever been changed.
There are no other symptoms that I can see.
Has anyone tried the cheap "Combustion gas in the coolant" tests?

Hi talkingcars,
No, there are a few spots, but no more big clots like this one.
Underside if the oil filler cap is clean, with a few beads of what looks like condensation, no milkyness.
Oil on the dipstick is clean, it was only changed a few hundred miles ago, along with the filter.

In that case I would carry on as normal monitoring it as part of every pre use inspection.
