Does the oil have to be replenished via the top of the engine?
If so, why can't it be filled via the remote filler, other than it will take some time?
Thanks.

The remote filer is really for topping up but I always use it for oil changes unless I have the engine cover off. As you say it's a slower process but I'm not normally in any hurry.

Hi and welcome to the forum
The bottom of the top up tube goes to the hole in the block that is used for the dipstick on front engines cars.
The tube drains straight into the sump so if filling through here you miss out coating the engine internals in fresh oil that has filtered through.
