Head Gasket seeping?

Head Gasket seeping? was created by plan9

Hi, I have removed the inlet manifold from my TF 160 and around the head gasket joint  there appears to be some seepage of oil? It appears all round the joint. Is this likely to be the fire rings leaking a bit?

Thanks,
Neil

Hi again, I have found what I think is a small coolant leak from the head gasket at the front of the engine just under the exhaust manifold, I've now removed the head and it looks like the liners are under .0015" above the block.

The fitted gasket was an MLS with a shim and seems to have lasted about 30000 miles but has been loosing coolant since I've owned the car. The original gasket was changed at around 60000.

I have read that the elastomer gasket is best in this situation with low liners,  I'm thinking of fitting a head shim as well, but not sure if this will just give me another joint for problems down the line.

I going to be cleaning up the surfaces this evening to measure the faces more accurately and hope to order the gasket set tomorrow.

Has anyone any experience with fitting the elastomer gasket with the MLS shim?

Thanks,
Neil
