Camshaft sensor

In an attempt to cure my rev limiter, or high speed misfire problem I decided to change the cam sensor. Unfortunately here in South Africa I can only get the long pin sensor which other than the pin length is absolutely identical. Does anyone know if the internals are the same and can the longer pin be machined down to match the original, and how much the pin should project from the body of the sensor?

I am sure the long pin sensor is the CRANKSHAFT position sensor.

The CAMSHAFT position sensor does not have the pin.
