Front wheel bearing
Hi everyone,
My 2002 TF has an advisory, “slight play in the near side wheel bearing”
I don’t think my DIY mechanical skills are up to replacing the bearings, however am I right in thinking a new hub can be fitted with the new bearing factory fitted?
Thanks

Yes, I believe that you can buy a new front hub with the bearing and ball joint already fitted. I think most people look for a good second-hand one.
If your car has ABS, make sure that the new hub has the ABS ring.

Before taking it apart you could ask a local engineering shop if they would push out the old and push in the new bearings etc, remember cash is handy in these situations.

If you feel you can replace the bearings, even by asking at a local engineering shop or even at a garage. I'd say have a go. I used a cheap bearing press set off the 'bay' and found it far easier than I expected. You also get that sense of achievement which money can't buy, apparently. But I appreciate not everyone feels confident to attempt some repairs.
Whilst, I can't claim to clock up a lot of mileage, the front bearings were a constant advisory on my MOT until I replaced them last year. Since it says slight play, maybe It's something for another day further along the road.
