MG TF REAR SCREEN

I managed to buy an excellent rear screen for my car ,from a member and I`m starting to fit it .I have all the rivets in place but a problem with the slider .Even with only the actual screen in the slider I am unable to get it to move along the zip .Is there a recommended lubricant I would have thought it would slide up and down the zip  easily without both part being fitted Also there is no metal tab on the one zip side I can  possibly get over this when I get the slider to move  Len
   

Hi I had the same problem with the screen on a S/H hood from a scrap yard, zip would not move so I used WD40 sparingly and then worked it back and forth spraying a little here and there. Now works fine, not sure what to suggest about the missing metal end as it would have to be very thin metal to repair that, maybe some plastic and Araldite. Good luck,

I1ve just polished the metal end, with a swiss file till it was polished .Now the slider goes on a treat Len

I have the zip connected to both strips ,but it is very tight to slide .Has anyone tried anything other than WD40 though I always find this excellent .I`ve made a clip for the end where the tabs should be ,so hopefully it will not come apart Len

The trouble with liquid sprays like WD40 is that they  are wet and can attract dirt to clog shit up, try a dry silicone spray lube it quickly dries out but leaves a dry silicone reside that keeps the surface lubricated.
A word of caution, try not to get this stuff all over your paint work, it's bloody hard the get off and it's an absolute pain in the hairy botbot to try a repaint over the residue!
You can tell if there is silicone residue on your paintwork...... you get strange looking pin holes forming in your paint as it dries, the only solution when that happens is to remove all the paint layers down to below the silicone layer, a good reason not to use silicone polish too!

Hi try soft pencil lead run it up & down the zip the graphite lubricates, I've used it on trouser zip in the past works fine.

Wouldn't that turn a soft lead pencil into a hard lead pencil? or is that how you put lead in your pencil?
