HaHa!
Just braved the frost and had a look at my boot lock.
On removing the gaiter the microswitch is in plain sight. Those spring leaf's are notorious in gas boilers for not fully closing or opening the switch. I cleaned it all with De-oxit and lubed the key barrel. The key turns nicely now and before it always felt sticky.
It is a very probable culprit seeing as it started one day when the alarm actually worked from the boot key.
We will see..but thanks for the help.

So far the alarm is behaving but I know it's just biding its time.

In another topic I posted that I fitted a Pipercross cone filter and did away with the airbox and hoses.
I was worried at the time that it might be a bit Chav. Well I really like it.
At normal town speeds and in traffic it just burbls like a nice exhaust. At 70 it doesn't drone.
Then...and then...I live in a rural area with some very nice country roads and once the rev counter hits 4k a smile comes across my face..at 5k the horns come out and I grin like a little kid.
Then I realise I have to upgrade the brakes..
