MGFMad Memorial Run - 24 March 2013
Sunday 24th March 2013
As most of us know, David McLennan (MGFmad) passed away in December 2012 and a decision was made to hold a memorial run in early 2013.
David was suffering from Motor Neuron disease and was supported by MND Scotland.
http://www.mndscotland.org.uk/
The following is information sent by MND Scotland. Your support helps us to make a real difference. There are currently 387 people living in Scotland with motor neurone disease, and more than 130 people will be diagnosed this year. MND Scotland is the only charity providing care and support for people affected by the condition and their carers, whilst also funding research into the disease.
Everyone with motor neurone disease in Scotland receives direct care from our team of Care Specialists who also ensure that our information and support services can be accessed after diagnosis and throughout the progression of the disease. We provide direct support to people with MND and their families, through the loan of specialist equipment such as electronic communication aids for people who can no longer speak. Our services will cost more than £1,000,000 this year, which means we have to raise almost £20,000 every week.
If you are attending the memorial run, MGFreedom will ask for a donation and all the money will go to MND (Scotland)
As David was known and respected around the UK, we thought the members from the rest of the country should also have the opportunity of attending the Memorial Run so we have decided to head south into the Borders and Northumberland areas in the hope some will attend.
Sunday 24th March 2013
The MGFreedom have asked that The Border Patrol organises a route for the memorial run so that members in the rest of the UK have a chance to join in and remember David McLennan (MGFmad). This run is open to everyone.
The proposed run will start at Lonhirst hall http://www.longhirst.co.uk/ near Morpeth at 10.30 AM on Sunday 24th March 2012.
Here we are at Longhirst Hall in 2008 . . .
Longhirst Hall
The route will cross the country towards Penrith and take in some of Northumberlands most famous driving roads.
The Main attraction being the roads upto and doen from the Hartside Cafe where we will stop for a bite to eat. There is plenty of parking available as long as not too many car/bike clubs are there.
Members of The Border Patrol are very familiar with this route and enjoy the views and road itself.
This is the route we will follow, with the cafe being at point "B"
The Cafe is a meeting point for bikers and car clubs etc and serves pie, cake, coffee etc.
The Hartside Pass is one of Northumberlands favourite car driving roads. Have a look at these videos taken by us to give an idea of the route.
If you are interested and can commit to this run then please let me know and I will add you to the list.
If you are coming from afar then let us know and we can let you know of decent places to stay if Longhirst Hall is full or you fancy somewhere different.

Posted 11 years 10 months ago #100156... I'd love to honour Davids memory this way, and for such a worthy cause. :hugs:
I'm currently looking after one of the 387 Scottish MND patients ... It's a cruel disease.

The Premier Inn at Gosforth is about 20-25 minutes drive from the start point.

We will be staying in the hotel overnite and bringing Christine, David's widow with us.
We were with David n Christine prior to his death - she has been very brave and is a remarkable lady. I took the funeral service which was packed.
It will be great to see some of you - we will not be doing the run but will be there on Sun morning.
