ok confuddled now but i think i've seen the light ......... maybe :-?

run a wire direct from battery (red 30) and the orange (15) from a switched live ........ if i'm thinking right does the relay need the switched live to be on to allow power through from the battery therefore no switched live then no power can get through eliminating the chance of flat battery??? :-? :-?

one good thing ....... if it goes up in flames at least i'll know to do it differently on my car

That sounds right Phil. Ithink I was confusing the two power supplies to the heating elements with the two power supplies to the relay, doh!

So yes as long as one of them is switched the seats won't heat up without the ign on. I've got Sheila's so that the ign just needs to be on position 1 for the seats to work.

Please ignore my earlier ramblings but I am on Co-codamol for the bruised ribs and that's my excuse...

if it helps, i switched the orange and red around from David's how to. Can't remember why now without reading his guide again.

think it was so that the relay wasn't live all the time

probably no help, but there you go

I see what you mean, the way I have the wires the relay is activated even though there is no power to the main circuit. The other way around you would have live to the main circuit but the relay would not be activated.
In theory less wear on the relay components?

I have amended the photo on page 1 to reflect this change round of wires.
Here is a copy of the photo with the wires amended.

Thanks for all the really useful info here. Only had my TF for a couple of months, but being used to heated seats in the 75.... think I'd better fit some in the MG. All the links to the pads David fitted are obviously a bit out of date. I think these are the ones you fitted

They will do the job but there are cheaper ones or better ones available, I plan to get some carbon ones asthey can be trimmed better.
