My name is Rich and I live on the Pacific Coast of Canada.
I have been an MG owner since I bought my first car back in 1974
I have owned MG's on and off since then. The "off" part came when
my kids were small, I'm sure many of you can relate.
A few years ago I got back into MG's with a family-friendly MG, a 1955
ZA-Magnette but the family weren't too keen on it. Seems they disn't like
breaking down in the middle of nowhere and waiting for Dad to fix the car.
Even though it always made it home under it's own steam it had to go.
The MGF/TF have never been available new in Canada, but very early F's now
meet the used car 15 year import rule and are eligible to be brought in.
I have an order in with a broker in Japan (Japan is just a straight boat ride
across the Pacific from here) but have also been cruising the forums and E-bay
UK for a solid early car.
I'm hoping to have some luck by the spring so that I can do some MGF motoring next summer.
Wish me luck!
Cheers,
Rich

Don't know how many MGFs there are in Japan tho
Maybe you'll have to buy one from dear old Blighty and get it shipped to the east coast - that way you could get to drive it all the way across Canada :woohoo:

Good luck with your search - there were quite a few F's exported to Japan, many had air con and other extras you don't often see.

According to the broker about 20 MGF/TFs pass through the Japanese auctions
every month. Of course few of them meet our 15 year rule but as time passes
the number will increase. He is also involved with MG Tokyo so has some excellent
contacts. He is a Brit ex-pat so is easy to communicate with.
I almost picked up a nice low mileage car from the UK last week but someone
beat me to it. If the right car comes up in the UK I will go for it but
shipping is 2-3 times the price of a car out of Japan. The train trip across Canada
costs more than the transatlantic voyage. Unfortunately driving across Canada
at this time of year isn't something i'm willing to attempt! 3000 miles at temps ranging
from zero to 40 below
