Starter Button v2.0 - Work in progress.
Hi all,
After the glut of starter buttons that were no doubt purchased after the recent promotion by Demon Tweaks I thought I'd post up a little how to guide for a 'better' version of the normal method of wiring in these starter buttons.
First things first (I can hear a thousand electrical draughtsmen spit their coffee over their desks....)
Whilst this may look daunting if you've never done any automotive wiring, I promise you it's dead simple, and I'll be here to hold your hand - in a purely platonic way, obviously, (*clears throat*).
Starter v2.0
The idea of my 'Starter v2.0' circuit is to fulfil the following two caveats that are not met by traditional wiring;
i) The switch will only illuminate when the engine is not running, and will extinguish once the engine has started.
ii) The starter button will not operate when the handbrake is released, this should prevent the majority of cases of potential for inadvertent starter operation once the vehicle is moving. There is still the potential for operation for once the engine is idling with the handbrake engaged, but for reasons I can explain if anybody is interested, it's a lot more tricky to wire it such a way the switch is inactive in all cases when the engine is running.
7" Radio Edit
Wire as the diagram above shows, wire all relay outputs to the side of the relay that allows current passage when the relay is NOT energised (conventionally pin 87a), reverse this and you'll get the reverse of what's explained above. I have fitted a solid-state 555 timer module (an old motorcycle flasher module I had kicking around in the garage) where suggested, this means the switch will flash on-and-off rather than stay on solid, I like this effect but just leave the flasher relay/module out if you'd prefer the light to stay solid.
You could also use a conventional two-pin flasher relay out of your "box of bits", but you'll have an irritating "click-clack" from the relay until the engine starts.
12" Extended Remix, 2xLP set with heavy gatefold-sleeve and bonus tracks
This will be uploaded over the next 24 hours!
Regards,
Andy

Nice one, as I won't be fitting a starter button, I'll leave it to someone else to prove it works!:yesnod:
I do like the idea of the light flashing, though!
