I suppose you are right.

Many men are involved in accidents. Women just see them in their rear view mirrors. :drive:

Being brought up by a single mum, I soon came to understand women cause accidents and men are the accident

I couldn't say it's the same in the UK for sure, but in NZ some results where released by insurance co.s a few years back, noting that while men had more claims total, women had more claims per km (that's 1/1.6 miles), and by quite a margin, but drove less due to the fairly typical traditional practice of if the couple is going out, the man usually drives.

Didn't change the way they calculated premiums though.

Something that seems to be largely forgotten is that in most (if not all) countries there are a good percentage more male drivers than there are female. So obviously there will be more males involved in accidents.

Obviously, the thread title was tongue firmly in cheek.

I passed my test in 1972 and have driven all sorts of vehicles on all sorts of roads. I have noted a general reduction in awareness, and anticipation;and an increase in selfish behaviour over recent years in driving standards.
What this can be attributed to is debatable.

From my experience the young driver tends to be over confident , in love with speed, and convinced of their own superior driving skills and invulnerability.
The older driver tends to be more careless through bad habits and reducing reaction times. Driving more hesitantly and slower as age increases.

The insurance companies think that young inexperienced drivers are the biggest risk , and I wouldn't disagree.

The most dangerous driving I see is exhibited by young men, especially with others in the car and, paradoxically, young women with small children in the car.

Sue rarely drives our Jag, mainly 'cos she doesn't like auto boxes. Also, being a midge at 5 foot 1" she struggles to see over the end of the bonnet!!

I enquired at renewal how much I'd save if I took her off as a named driver: The answer? the premium would rise by a tenner: women of her her age group are less risk than men of the same age!
She's still a named driver. :)

The TF is insured in her name with me as a named driver (different company to the Jag insurance): out of curiosity i enquired how much it would be if i were the policy holder with her as named driver: You guessed it: about a tenner more! That was with her insurer.

Passed my car test in 1973, bike test in 1972 IIRC!! ;)

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

The under 25 male driver is definately the biggest menace, as is evidenced from the data.

After that it that it comes down to experience and, as with anything else practice. I am sure with all the driving Jan does she is an excellent driver whereas, the mainly female 'housewife/husband' population just poodle on school/shoppng runs and display all sorts of indecisivness/lack of awareness. However, as they very rarely drive any faster than 20 miles an hour, their only accidents are when they manage to collide with inanimate objects, as most other drivers manage to avoid the potential pitfalls of their other transgressions by taking evasive action.

After the under 25 males the one biggest problem is morons using their mobile phones whilst driving.

BTW insurance companies don't care how good a driver you are just what risk you are, which does not reflect how many miles you drive in a year, so is no guide to competence at all.

As for the, all too numerous, 'supermarket car park' type dents - can someome explain to me how anyone who manages to dent a parked vehicle has any right to a licence, as their spatial awareness must be complete crap :nonod:
