paypal username is normally their email address, but you need to check with them.
Then send it as a personal gift (no fees)

You will need their email address and when you make the payment you need to tick the box to say that it is a personal gift, or some other similar wording :broon:

So this would be a useful way of paying for something, as long as they have a Paypal a/c?
Would it be secure as you hear some horror stories & scams regarding this.

I pay for loads of stuff using Paypal. I prefer it to using credit cards on the net. Especially on ebay.

Only problem is if you give it as a personal gift, that's just what paypal consider it as, therefore no comeback, in that case.

bongo I would say that some of the PayPal fees are higher than I would like, however, I do use their service a lot. Like David said, I also do not want to give my bank or card details out to numerous suppliers over the web.

If you gift a payment to someone you know, then it is free of charge for both you and the recipient.

:nofight: but would say your comment about PayPal being thieves is not true

That's the same guy I bought my roll hoops and T-Bar from. He put the T-Bar in the box WITHOUT any protection, so it got smashed by the roll hoops and cross member.

When I complained he was totally unhelpful and didn't even apologise for his appaling packaging. I didn't mention this at the time but, as someone else his having trouble with him, I would like to say that IMHO he is well worth steering clear of :nonod:

I stll have the photos of the T-Bar and all the emails we exchanged, so I can prove the above if required to do so - arrogant s*d!

Oh My Jan! I just sent you a payment this morning as a "Gift" :pinch:

Regardless... Paypal has worked really well for me over several hundred transactions.
I have sent payments, small and large all over the world and received them as well with
very few problems. Unfortunately if the seller/buyer is going to rip you off they will do it
whether or not you pay by Paypal.
As for their fees, you really do have to look at them as a cost of doing business, just like when a bricks and mortar
business accepts your credit card they have to pay a percentage. I remember what a pain E-Bay was back before Paypal.
You would e-mail the buyer an invoice, wait a couple of weeks for their cheque to arrive, wait a week or so to see if it
bounced, then mail their item. If you were the buyer the waits were lengthy, and you could still get ripped off!
I would rather pay a few percent to get paid immediatley and have the parcel in the mail the next day.

The vast majority of people are honest, but there's always those willing to prey on the honesty of others.
