I actually like trad folk: used to play in folk clubs back in the day many moons ago. Martin Carthy, Keith Christmas, Fairports etc. ........ still have the 1913 vintage Clifford Essex banjo. And Gretsch acoustic guitar. Etc.
Modern pop/folk: Mumford and Sons: like Steeleye Span, only even more whiny and with no singer with big norks to gaze at. Just a fat bloke with a bad beard.

The Bowie reference John is Mott the Hoople were a great live band but with less success on the record sales front and were on the point of splitting up when Bowie stepped in and donated the song All the Young Dudes which fetched them into the limelight
