Non MG problems... Boiler Kaput was created by bensewell

Got a Ideal ICOS bolier that was put in when we bought our house in 2004.

Today it has decided to not fire up giving a code of L / F.

Checked the manual and it says that this is a firing up problem. Reset the fault code and tried again, it tries to fire up but then rattles loudly then displays the fault code.

So I have the emergency boiler breakdown people on the way but I think its bodge it barratts who have cut corners putting crap boilers in houses.

Any tips?

I'm going to wait for the boiler men to come then take it from there.

If it is totally broken then can a boiler be installed in a day?

Googling Ideal ICOS has given results not very positive.

I need it working or they won't let the twins home :nonod: :help:

If you've got a little window, check that the pilot light is burning,
Or if it's a combi boiler check that it's sparking trying to start. Check that you have adequate pressure in the system, or it won't run. There should be at least 1.2 bar of pressure. There will be a valve to allow more water in to raise the pressure.

A boiler can easily be replaced in a couple of hours max.

Sods law I suppose, when you want everything 100%, better now than when the twins are home.

Dont know about boilers I'm afraid, but we have the gas guy coming out this afternoon to fit a new PCB to our Potterton boiler, common problem with them. Cuts out in the night and has to be reset to fire up.

Hope a trained gas guy is on here and knows the answers.

Best of luck with it and hope its an easy and cheap fix.

My in laws had an Ideal fitted fitted a few years back as soon as the guarantee period was out (12 months) it was just one breakdown after another till they eventually replaced with a Worcester Bosch had no problems in the 3 years its been fitted plus it came with a 5 year guarantee not 1 year like the Ideal. Valliant are supposed to be very good as well

Vaillant boilers used to be good, now they are made on the cheap and are rubbish.

For combis, Worcester is the only one worth the money in my friend, the heating engineer's opinion.

Ideal still make good standard boilers.

Anyone know roughly that much it would be for a new condensor boiler install? Don't think I can have a combi due to having three floors in the house ?

Between 600 and a grand, depending on output. Plus fitting I'd reckon.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Ideal ICOS and ISAR are the two worst boilers produced by Ideal

Who is coming out Ben?

Get a fixed price to repair it.. and dont pay a call out fee

Ideal would come out and they do a 'one price fixes all' which works out a good deal if its the PCB (common on that boiler)

If you were closer Id come across to yours..

Worcester Si if fitted by a Worcester approved engineer will have a 7 year warranty..

Vailant ECO TEC will have 5 year warranty if fitted by a Vailant apporved engineer

Both are good appliances

The Worcester Bosch boilers are currently sold with 10 year warranties through some companies.

Jonny Ball keeps telling me about them on the radio in his help link adverts

Cheers Alan I'm covered with the bank a 50 quid flat fix fee or I'll condemn it and get a new system in.
