A big welcome to all our recent new members. was created by Leigh Ping
Posted 12 years 1 week ago #86015Reading the 'attack thread' I always assumed that people there just preferred a more vibrant atmosphere. Just like the one we have hidden away in our 'asylum section' really (although that section is hidden from public view so it's not common knowledge to the casual member or guests until they sign up). Just feel free to register and login if you want to see what's going on or is available to members here.
The T-bar approach seems to be working well and I think that is why our own stats are on the up. Although that's never really been a driving force here. It's more than it was a year ago.
The T-Bar community is still what counts with all its' benefits such as the national and international events & meets, BBQ's, promotions and even small favours and helping hands make a difference. It's the human touch that takes it beyond the keyboard that makes us a great MG forum. The live shoutbox is a useful tool to have around as well. The most popular MG quiz online always deserves a special mention too. :yesnod:
I hope it stays that way now that the site is a lot faster than it used to be. Being a member of quite a few MG related sites, just like many of our members are, is handy when one goes offline. There's no problem with that. The point is we can freely belong to them all so that we have a place to communicate on those rainy days when we catch a cold. Hopefully Psymon will continue to do a sterling job of keeping the bugs out and we can carry on with business as usual. :broon:
A big welcome to all our recent new members then. Enjoy. :welcome:

Posted 12 years 1 week ago #86018Yesterday was quite busy on the MG forums. Mostly down to monitoring the cyber attacks on .org. It was an interesting education. In reality, it was a serious attack and we should evaluate how we might react if the same thing happens to us.
When I get a private message it also goes to my email account, if the worst did happen :pinch:
I would suggest that Admin immediately send a private message en mass to all members with a pre determined headline, from an email address that we would all know, so it was opened on the email account rather than on the webpage ..
Post on the FB page, and most importantly keep all members aware and up to date, unlike .org who handled the situation very badly, left members in the dark re the situation, and allowed computers to be infected, not nice ...

Posted 12 years 1 week ago #86026I'm not really sure how to avoid such incidents other than from the source. Maybe more will be divulged with a thorough explanation of what occurred at some later point. I don't doubt that preventative measures to stop this kind of thing recurring have been taken already. Fingers crossed.

Posted 12 years 1 week ago #86031We have had a couple of cyber attacks, but Simon has a lot of safeguards in place on the forum and we contained them.
I think, for a serious infection, the only safe way would be to pull the forum offline and put up an explanatory message. Deal with the problem before going live again.

No will be hanging around - although may not post much, but like reading the forums. Who do I need to speak to to change my user name to 220coupe - might as well be consistent across all.
Cheers
