I have ordered A K&H splitter, but it comes with self tappers. :(
I want to use SS bolts - what size will I need?

I used 20mm M6 bolts, nuts and flat washers, Roger. I used G clamps to hold the splitter in position,
My advice is to mount it as far back as possible to minimise kerb damage. :broon:

I too bought a K&N splitter and used the special fixings they supplied. I drilled the correct size hole in the bumper for these fixings. I also added some additional fixings at the ends. Like David I fixed the splitter as far back as it would go. I held mine in position with a long piece of wood and the trolley jack which made it very easy to centre, but "G" clamps would be good.

I was not satisified with the finish of the glassfibre moulding, cleaned off the rough edges, sprayed it with plastic primer, base coat and clear coat, i sprayed the underside with Dinitrol stonechip coating (black) looks a real professional job :woohoo:

Splitter? You need a cutting disc in an angle grinder. Cut the splitter into 20mm pieces. Throw pieces into bin. Fit leds to bits of splitter to cheer the dustmen up. Go to pub. Rejoice in pure bodywork appearance through pub window. Get someone sober to drive you home.

Are these things fitted as fashion statements or do people really think that a bit of thin plastic will improve the aerodynamics of a tonne and a bit of Brummy designed car? If you claim that the "front feels more planted" .......aargh!

Ban imminent.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Really can't see the point Bryan, other than a cosmetic additive.
I put faith in the design skills of the people who designed the car: maybe flawed in places. Air diversion devices have validity on aerodynamically flat bottomed cars: not bumpy bottomed sports cars with coolant pipes and sumps etc.

It will be all right in the end. If it isn't all right yet, then it is not yet the end..

Pictures please matey, as I will be doing mine soon, just need to sray it up as I agree that it dosnt look its best but I do fancy leaving it Black

And John I will let you know what I think after fitting but I do feel the car is slighty vague at high speeds and general advice is the Splitter works !

Love the idea of fitting leds to it though .........

I've no experience of the K & H splitter, but I have used the MS F-One and the x-Power splitters and at speed on track there is a definite difference in stability and handling. Driving at normal speed you're not going to feel any benefit but anything over 70mph is noticeable.

If a jobs worth doing, it's worth overdoing

I believe the splitter makes a difference and you can feel it stabilise front end vagueness from about 60 mph upwards. I did a before and afterwards test, difference was noticeable.

Regarding fixing, when I offered it up the front edge was not parallel to the ground, it angled up, I added a small wedge on the top of the central post to get the correct angle. I also spent time jiggling it into the best fit and cut an angle into the back edge of the central mounting post so it sat as far back as poss. For me the best position was about level with front of the car to get everything lined up. However, I think the quality of the moulding I got was poor and needed a lot of fettling, I have read of guys just offering up and bolting in place in 30 mins so you may be in a better position. Also I threw away the fixing kit and replaced with brand new set of SS bolts, nice big flat washers and Nyloc nuts.

Tony has a good how to fit a splitter: http://www.apttony.co.uk/index_MGF.html Look for splitter fitting near the bottom of the page in the LH side.

I believe it makes a difference, although maybe only slight at 60 mph. I've noticed that the new VW CC has a splitter at the bottom of the front bumper. Doubt they would add it for on cosmetic reasons.

I think John has never driven over 60mph so can't understand all this splitter talk. :coat:

Having had my splitter on since before Christmas, I can say its made positive difference in the feel of the car at higher speeds. It did feel vague, floaty and very much like I didn't want to push any harder. With it on I happily hit some high numbers on the FRL run. It may well be possible to theoretically prove that is has no effect, but it certainly doesn't feel that way.
